Native Bees of the ACT and NSW South Coast is an excellent native bee spotter’s guide for the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and New South Wales (NSW) South Coast.

But it is much more! This guide is also an excellent beginners guide on native bees, as well as an identification manual for native bee species that occur in this region.

The introduction is well written and very clearly explained. The author, Peter Abbott, has clearly aimed to make this a guide for beginners as well as more experienced naturalists. By following the illustrated instructions on the significant characteristics, anyone will be able to get started on this journey of native bee discovery.

There is also a useful section for home gardeners on how to create a bee-friendly environment in the garden, and which native plant species to plant.

This book is an important contribution to distribute specialists’ knowledge on local native bee species into the wider domain of naturalists and gardeners.

The book is extensively illustrated with excellent illustrations and photographs. Many of the photographs in this guide were taken at the Australian National Botanic Gardens in Canberra. An excellent place to also start your discovery journey on native bees.

I warmly recommend this book!
